Aloha from the Big Island, Hawaii
Departed Birmingham at 7:20 am...arrived on the Big Island, Hawaii at 7:30 pm. The journey was long (4,360 miles!) but totally worth it. After we retrieved our luggage (sooo happy the bags made it!) we made our way to Dollar Rental and picked up the car, a Kia Soul. The area where we would be staying the duration of the trip was on the west side of the island, Waikoloa...just north of Kona (where they grow the coffee). Once we checked into our hotel, The Mariott Waikoloa, the first order of business was FOOD! There were a couple of strip malls located near our hotel, Kings & Queens Shops. We walked across the street to the Kings Shops and ate at Roy's, it was on my "list." Roy's Hawaiian Fusion Cuisine is a blend of European, Asian and Hawaiian flavors. It was delicious! 1st we had some edamame. Next up was a Farmers Salad made with Maui tomatoes and Big Island onions. Shane ordered the short ribs and I had the Opah. For the finale we had the chocolate souffle, holy smokes it was TO DIE FOR!! After dinner we waddled back to the room to rest up from the journey and for the adventures that await us. Aloha
